Early Childhood

Join the nation’s most ambitious effort to expand pre-K and 3-K and get our youngest learners off to a strong start. With 1,500+ early childhood programs, we’re working to give every four-year-old and three-year-old in New York City access to high-quality, full-day pre-K and 3-K. Our teachers create dynamic learning environments that engage students, cultivate intellectual confidence, and instill the academic, social and emotional skills they need to thrive in kindergarten and beyond. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

Our STEM teachers use the city as their laboratory. At our many STEM-themed schools, which focus on subjects from science research to the health professions, students engage in rich, inquiry-based learning. Through partnerships with dozens of leading STEM organizations like the American Museum of Natural History and the New York Hall of Science, teachers can hone their teaching practice, maintain cutting-edge content knowledge, and expose students to exciting STEM careers. More than 900 STEM teachers each year take on leadership responsibilities, and others pursue additional development through programs like Bank Street’s Leadership in Mathematics, Math for America New York, or Urban Advantage’s Middle School Science Initiative.

Spanish (Foreign/ World Language)

Our Spanish teachers introduce students to the beauty and breadth of Spanish language, literature, and culture. As the second-most commonly spoken language in NYC, students who become proficient in Spanish are well-positioned to succeed in their careers across a wide range of industries in our global society.

Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language (ESL)

Our bilingual and ESL teachers empower more than 150,000 students with critical English language skills to succeed across subjects. Since 2015, New York City Public Schools has launched or expanded more than 40 dual language programs. High-demand languages include Bengali, Chinese, Haitian Creole and Spanish.

Special Education and District 75 

Empower special-needs students with personalized instruction. Teachers working in integrated Special Education programs provide individualized support in schools across the city and help students with unique learning needs master the general curriculum. In District 75, a specialized district for approximately 23,000 students with moderate to severe disabilities, teachers deliver instruction to students who may be on the autism spectrum, emotionally challenged, multiply-disabled, speech and language impaired, intellectually disabled or learning disabled.
