I’d Like To Obtain an Internship Certificate
Are you enrolled in a New York State teacher certification graduate program and eager to begin teaching? Consider teaching under an Internship Certificate!
What is an Internship Certificate?
A two-year certificate for candidates who have completed at least 50 percent of an approved graduate-level teacher preparation program in New York State leading to an Initial Certificate.
Am I eligible?
Before they begin working, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be officially recommended by their university or college
- Have a job offer from a principal
- Receive a Superintendent recommendation in TEACH
- Complete required workshops
- Secure fingerprint clearance

Start by securing an eligibility letter from your college or university certification officer indicating your eligibility for an Internship Certificate. Submit this letter as supporting documentation for your certification when completing the NYC Teacher Application.

As of January 2025, the starting salary for new teachers with a bachelor’s degree and no teaching experience is $66,733 and $75,017 for those with a master’s degree
