For all employees: 

Consider an alternative certification program to earn certification while beginning your teaching career at NYCPS.

For paraprofessionals only:  

There are exciting opportunities available for NYCPS paraprofessionals to pursue teaching certification.

  • Support in Earning Your Bachelor's Degree 
    • Career Training Program: Tuition assistance—up to 6 credits per semester—towards earning a bachelor’s degree at participating colleges and universities to build a foundation for your teaching career. 
  • Support in Earning Your Teaching Certification 
    • Jose P Scholarship Program: Full scholarship to earn a master’s degree in select, high-need subject areas.  
    • Bilingual Pupil Services: Prepares and trains bilingual paraprofessionals in pursuit of a teaching career to support and serve English Language Learners and Multilingual Learners in Title I public elementary/middle schools. Aspiring teachers receive paid tuition to an accredited teacher preparation program.

As of January 2025, the starting salary for new teachers with a bachelor’s degree and no teaching experience is $66,733 and $75,017 for those with a master’s degree
