Student Teaching
Student teaching offers aspiring teachers enrolled in approved teacher preparation programs the opportunity to get real-world experience teaching in a New York City Public Schools classroom.
Student teachers grow and develop their skills with the support of experienced mentors, becoming integral members of their school and classroom communities. The relationships forged with teachers and administrators during this experience help pave the way for aspiring teachers to secure full-time teaching positions.
In addition to personalized mentorship, student teachers at NYC Public Schools benefit from a wide range of other supports and development opportunities. These include access to monthly student teacher newsletters, career and professional readiness workshops, professional development opportunities, and information sessions designed to guide student teachers through the certification and hiring process. Your college or university may offer additional benefits such as in-person networking events, test preparation resources, exam vouchers, and community-building spaces.
