Empire State Teacher Residency Program
The Empire State Teacher Residency Program provides opportunities for aspiring teachers to jumpstart their careers at New York City Public Schools by completing residencies in NYCPS priority districts. In partnership with eight local institutes of higher education, the program supports teacher residents earning clinical experience in a NYC Public school and provides annual stipends.
Empire State Teacher residents:
- Receive an annual stipend of $30,000
- Complete 1,000 hours of clinical experience in a NYC Public School
- Make a 2-year commitment to teach in NYCPS upon completion of their residency
Eligible candidates must have a bachelor's degree and must not have previously attended a teacher preparation program.
